Bodnant Garden is a National Trust property near Tal-y-Cafn, Conwy, Wales, overlooking the Conwy Valley towards the Carneddau mountains. These paintings are developed from sketches and photographs from mid-Covid time visits during the summer, when restrictions were eased slightly in Wales. The National Trust Wales has permitted me to sketch and paint at Bodnant Gardens. I have found myself using more colour in these latest paintings, and Bodnant is a great setting to expand my colour palete!
As with everyone, this year I've continued to stay local, and had my holiday down the coast in Cardigan (Ceredigion). This painting is a scene very close to home of a dog walker in Llandudno walking past a shelter. This painting is about the splendid horizons beyond the promenade and how people just drift across this stage.
Come and take a look at my paintings now on display in the heart of Snowdonia! My paintings as a guest artist are eye catching in size, colour burst and composition. The round compositions are from the focus binoculars bring to an image, and the boardwalk pieces contrast geometry with natural lines of nature. A bit of a preview below!
I've been staying close to home in North Wales this summer venturing down to West Wales. My paintings of these staycation travels are on show in Galeri Betws-Y-Coed and feature aspects of Snowdonia. Llyn Idwal, Afon Idwal and Afon Peris are in the heart of the mountains. Afon Llugwy flows through Betws-Y-Coed itself. The Welsh mountain ponies are on Conwy RSPB reserve. Finally images from Cardigan Bay are the latest of the seascape paintings.
Nant Ffrancon Gors - one of my latest paintings from 2021 which is on display at the Hiraeth Open Exhibition at Life Full Colour gallery, Caernarvon, November to December 2021. Hiraeth is the longing felt for home and here it is the longing felt for Snowdonia where sky and cloud meet mountain making colours muted or enhanced and shapes that can appear to change.
